ABOUT KIMUAK 2024 CALL FOR ENTRIES

The KIMUAK programme is promoted by the the Etxepare Basque Institute and Zineuskadi. It aims to promote and distribute Basque short films internationally. The works selected in this process are be collected under the name KIMUAK, which will be responsible for their distribution in festivals without registration fees (also in calls in which KIMUAK has a fee exemption), as well as their promotion in international and national markets for a period of twelve months.


APPLICANTS

The authors of the short film must meet one of these three conditions:

  1. The person directing the work must be registered in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) for at least one year before the date of publication of this call or have resided there continuously for at least 5 years, or discontinuously. for at least 10 years.
  2. The producing company must be located in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV). In the case of co-productions between several companies, the CAV production company(s) must prove that they are the absolute majority partner(s).
  3. Productions in Basque language presented by authors or companies from the Foral Community of Navarra or the agglomeration community of the Basque Country may also be eligible. If it is a co-production between two or more companies, the applicant must present a document that certifies their status as majority partner.

  • Can I register a project in development?
    No. The films must be submitted completed with the final edit. 
  • Can I send a work in progress?
    Yes, as long as the editing is final. If the short film is selected, changes will only be allowed in post-production aspects. 
  • Can I register a short film already presented in a previous edition?
    Only if considerable changes have been made to the editing. 
  • Should short films be presented with subtitles?
    To facilitate internationalization, all applications must be submitted with English subtitles.
  • Can I receive feedback?
    No. The jury evaluates the short films using a scoring system, and only those that have exceeded the minimum required points are debated during the deliberation. The jury does not make an individual assessment of all the candidates.
